The three game cupcake slate comes to an end on Halloween afternoon for the Los Angeles Rams as they fly down to Houston to take on the Texans at NRG Stadium.
This is the end of a part of the schedule where the Rams' last three opponents have combined 3 wins. The Rams enter this game as heavy favorites despite losing out on veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth to a knee injury. Defensive backs Jalen Ramsey, Robert Rochell and team captain Jordan Fuller all are questionable for Sunday. Head Coach Sean McVay anticipates Ramsey's injury shouldn't affect his status and should be a full go when they see kickoff on Sunday. Rochell and Fuller's statuses are more up in the air and will most likely be a game day decision. Both of the players had full participation on Friday which is an incredibly good sign for the defense if they're able to play.
After clinching the win against his former team, the Detroit Lions, quarterback Matthew Stafford enters this game with an opportunity to beat a team he has yet to beat in his career. Stafford is 0-3 against the Texans despite having sound numbers against the team. The QB has a passer rating of 86.5 all time against Houston as well as 976 total yards, four touchdowns and one interception. With targets like wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Van Jefferson, look for Stafford to keep those numbers solid and notch his first W against Houston.
Kupp is putting up numbers reminiscent to Randy Moss' astounding 2007 season where Moss achieved an NFL record 23(!) touchdown receptions along with 1,493 yards. Coop has 56 receptions for 809 yards and nine touchdowns so far on the year. Outside of Hall of Fame Lion's receiver Calvin Johnson, Kupp is proving to be Stafford's most trusted target he's ever had. Look for Cooper Kupp to continue his success against an abhorrently bad Texans defense, who is also ranked 31st against the run. Look for running back Darrell Henderson to get his number called by McVay plenty of times on Sunday. The Texans will be without their starter Tyrod Taylor due to a lingering hamstring injury and will once again give Davis Mills the start. The Texans offense have accounted for 39 total points in their last five games with Mills at the helm. For reference, the Rams score 38 in their game against the New York Giants in week 6. This offense will have a hell of a time getting anything going against a healthy Jalen Ramsey as well as dealing with defensive tackle and all around problem Aaron Donald. Donald will look to pad his 2021 stats as he only has three and a half sacks and 12 tackles on the season. Though his numbers aren't big, Donald's mere presence is worthy of game planning around. First year Head Coach David Culley knows he has to avoid the defensive tackle at all costs if has any hope for the Texans to stay competitive in this tilt.
The rare Halloween-day game should make for an exciting day of football all around the league. The fans will be dressed up and festive no matter what the outcome. For the players it's strictly business. Look for the Rams to hand yet another loss to Houston with the score of 41-20
